Protecting your account has never been so easy.
Ever had an oops moment in your checking account? Checking accounts are active places—checks, debit card charges, automatic payments and ATM withdrawals are all fighting for the dollars in your account. Sometimes a charge can sneak through, send your balance negative and cause an overdraft.
Members can avoid overdraft fees from Heritage, and bounced check fees from merchants, by using overdraft protection** methods:
Transfer from Savings
Keep extra money in your savings account and we will transfer funds from your savings to cover charges that would bring your checking account negative, if needed.
Fee: $7 per transfer
Overdraft Protection Line of Credit
This line of credit loan is linked to your checking account and will automatically transfer money to your checking to cover charges that would bring your account negative. To choose this option, complete a loan application and meet credit criteria.
Fee: $7 per transfer, plus interest on the loan until it is paid in full
Qualified members can withdraw more than the account balance, up to a pre-approved limit, for a short period of time to cover unexpected emergencies. Heritage will pay the merchant for the following transactions that would bring your account negative:
- Checks you've written
- Pre-authorized withdrawals using your checking account information or debit card number, such as health club memberships, utility payments, online subscriptions, etc.
For protection on everyday debit card purchases and ATM transactions, simply opt-in by doing one of the following:
- Call 888-432-8496 and we will process your request over the phone
- Call or visit your local Branch
- Print, complete and mail this form to PO Box 14047, Madison WI 53708-0047
Fee: $30 per item
**Overdraft protection services are offered to eligible members. They allow Heritage, at our discretion, to authorize and pay checks, ACH withdrawals and other transactions on a checking account when there is an overdraft. Transfers will first be made from the primary share account, provided there are enough available funds in that account, then from the line of credit (if applicable) up to the available credit limit, and then we may elect to pay the overdraft subject to any preference indicated to us by the member. Overdraft transfers are subject to a transfer fee. Repayment is due immediately or on demand. In order to be eligible for overdraft protection services, you must have a checking account in good standing. This includes, among other requirements, the following:
- You are not delinquent on any loan or credit card obligation with us
- You do not have any charged-off accounts with us
- Your account has been opened for a minimum of 30 days
